Anti-paper leak bill in Rajya Sabha
The Rajya Sabha is scheduled to take up the anti-paper leak bill at 2 pm. The Lok Sabha passed the bill on Wednesday after a marathon nine-hour debate. The Opposition is expected to push for stronger safeguards and accountability in the legislation.
Heated exchanges in Lok Sabha
The Lok Sabha has already seen intense debate over the July 20 student protests and the government’s handling of the agitation. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of authorising police firing on protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party march.
The Treasury benches strongly rejected the allegation, leading to a sharp political confrontation. The bill was eventually passed by a voice vote amid Opposition protests, and the House was adjourned for the day.
Ram Mandir donation controversy
The session has also witnessed a new flashpoint over alleged misappropriation of donations meant for the Ram Mandir. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari accused the BJP-led government of being implicated in the alleged theft of offerings and donations.
Samajwadi Party members staged a protest in the Parliament complex over the issue. In Rajya Sabha, a member lodged a formal notice under Rule 267, seeking suspension of scheduled business to discuss the alleged financial misconduct in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
