Hyderabad: Former Telangana minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has thrown his weight behind the ongoing Gen-Z protests over the NEET paper leak. In a sharp message to the Centre, KTR said Prime Minister Narendra Modi “messed with the wrong people” by underestimating the resolve of India’s youth.
KTR’s warning to the government
Speaking to reporters, KTR said the student movement reflects deep frustration with the education system. He warned that if governments continue to ignore accountability, the agitation could spread further.
“Gen-Z is not a force to be taken lightly. They are educated, connected, and determined. When they unite for a cause, they cannot be silenced,” he said.
From NEET to broader anger
The protests began with demands for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. But after the police crackdown on the July 20 “Chalo Sansad” march, the anger has widened.
Many protesters now question the government’s handling of youth aspirations, unemployment, and trust in institutions. KTR said this shift shows how a single issue can snowball into a larger movement when grievances are not addressed.
BJP fires back
The BJP hit back at KTR, calling his remarks “opportunistic.” Leaders mocked him as a “nepo kid” and questioned his credibility on youth issues. They said the BRS failed to deliver on jobs and education during its time in power in Telangana.
Why KTR’s comment matters
KTR’s support adds political weight to a movement that has so far been largely apolitical. It also signals that opposition parties see the Gen-Z protests as a potential flashpoint ahead of future elections.
For the government, the message is clear: the youth are watching, and they expect action, not just assurances.
