Three Rajya Sabha seats. Three powerful men with their eyes on Delhi. And the man who holds all the answers? He’s currently 5,000 kilometres away in Russia.
Welcome to Andhra Pradesh politics in 2026 — where even a routine candidate list becomes a high-stakes waiting game.
The List That Nobody Will Release
Suspense is thick inside the Telugu Desam Party over who gets the three Rajya Sabha seats from Andhra Pradesh — and insiders say the delay is no accident.
TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh is currently on an official visit to Russia, and sources within the party say he wants the final Rajya Sabha candidate list cleared only after his return to India on June 8 morning.
That’s right. The entire AP political machinery is hitting pause — waiting on one man to land at the airport.
There has been no official confirmation from the party leadership, but the timing of the announcement has fuelled talk that consultations involving Lokesh are playing a crucial role in the final decision.
What We Already Know — Two Seats, Virtually Done
While the suspense over the third seat rages, sources say two names are practically confirmed.
Bhashyam Ramakrishna, educationist and chairman of Bhashyam Educational Institutions, is widely believed to be among the confirmed candidates. A long-time TDP loyalist, he stood by the party through its years in opposition and was reportedly assured a Rajya Sabha berth after missing out on contesting the Guntur Lok Sabha seat.
That’s the kind of loyalty Chandrababu Naidu rewards — and Ramakrishna’s time has apparently come.
The second likely nominee is incumbent Rajya Sabha member Sana Satish, who entered the Upper House through a by-election in December 2024. His term ends on June 21, and having served only about 18 months, the party leadership is understood to be inclined towards granting him another term.
Fair enough. But it’s the third seat where things get explosive.
The Real Drama: One Seat, Three Contenders, Zero Clarity
The real contest is over the third seat, with party leaders weighing social and political considerations. The choice is said to be between a representative from the Scheduled Caste community and one from the Backward Classes category.
And the contenders couldn’t be more different.
Contender 1 — The Loyalist: Senior TDP leader Varla Ramaiah from the Madiga community remained firmly with the party after the painful 2019 elections, when many leaders distanced themselves from the TDP. His loyalty is considered a major factor in his favour — but he narrowly missed out on a Rajya Sabha berth previously when the party ultimately nominated Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar. Lightning rarely strikes twice — but Ramaiah’s camp believes this is finally his moment.
Contender 2 — The Speaker’s Son: Chintakayala Vijay, son of AP Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu, belongs to the BC community and is being actively discussed. Sources say efforts are underway to secure a parliamentary position for Vijay. Political dynasties are alive and well in AP — and with the Speaker’s weight behind him, Vijay is no outsider.
Lokesh’s Wild Card — The Name Nobody Expected
And then there’s the plot twist that has every TDP leader watching their phones.
Lokesh is said to be keen on getting the Rajya Sabha ticket for his close associate Kilaru Rajesh. If his word prevails, either Sana Satish or Chintakayala Vijay may have to lose out.
There it is. The Lokesh factor. One man’s personal preference could reshuffle the entire deck — bumping out an incumbent MP or a Speaker’s son in favour of a close associate.
This is why nobody is releasing the list. This is why everyone is waiting for June 8.
The Father-Son Equation at the Heart of It All
The most telling detail in this entire saga? Sources said that in case Lokesh leaves the decision to his father, the list will be released by Saturday evening.
So there it is — AP’s political fate in plain language. Either Lokesh calls the shots from Moscow, or Chandrababu Naidu makes the final call at home. Either way, a handful of careers hang in the balance until the flight from Russia touches down on Sunday morning.
Three seats. Three communities. Three families. One list. And a plane that can’t land fast enough.
Watch this space — the moment Lokesh’s wheels hit the tarmac, AP politics is going to erupt.
