A routine intercity journey turned into a frightening ordeal on the Hyderabad-Kurnool highway after an RTC Express bus lost control and overturned, leaving more than 30 passengers injured and triggering a tense rescue effort on the busy NH-44 stretch. The accident caused panic among passengers and motorists as local residents rushed to the spot to pull people out of the wreckage.
The bus, which was traveling from Kurnool to Hyderabad, was carrying more than 50 passengers when it overturned. According to early reports, over 30 of them suffered injuries and were shifted to Pebberu Government Hospital in Wanaparthy district for treatment.
Rescue efforts on the highway
Soon after the accident, people nearby joined the rescue effort and began helping trapped passengers out of the overturned bus. Two passengers were reportedly still trapped inside the vehicle for some time, adding to the urgency of the operation.
Scenes at the accident site were described as chaotic, with frightened passengers, traffic disruption and emergency response teams working quickly to move the injured to hospital. For those caught inside the bus, the incident would have unfolded in seconds, turning an ordinary road trip into a terrifying crash.
Cause under investigation
The exact reason behind the accident is not yet known, and police have launched an investigation to determine what led to the bus losing control. In highway accidents like this, investigators usually examine road conditions, vehicle status, driver fatigue and the sequence of movements before the crash.
For now, the focus remains on medical care for the injured and on reconstructing the moments before the overturning. As with many such accidents, the real concern is not only what happened, but whether it could have been prevented.
Growing road safety concern
The accident has once again drawn attention to highway safety on busy intercity routes, where high speed, heavy traffic and long-distance travel can quickly turn dangerous. RTC buses carry large numbers of passengers every day, which means even a single mishap can affect dozens of families at once.
While the full circumstances are still being checked, the human cost is already clear: one overturned bus, dozens injured, and a road trip that ended in fear instead of arrival.
