Bharat Rashtra Samithi veteran K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao has fiercely defended Congress leader and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s mentor, former Andhra Pradesh CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy, calling Pawan Kalyan’s recent criticism of the late leader “absurd and unjustified.”

In a sharp political rebuke, KVP said attacking YSR, a legend who sacrificed his life for the people, is completely wrong and questioned why Pawan Kalyan would target someone who has been dead for over a decade.

The Political Firestorm

The controversy erupted after Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan made critical remarks about YSR during a recent political rally in Andhra Pradesh. The comments immediately sparked backlash from Congress and YSRCP leaders across both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

KVP, who holds significant influence in Telangana politics and maintains close ties with Congress leadership, didn’t hold back in his response.

“Attacking YSR is absurd. He was a legend who gave his life for the people. Why attack someone who sacrificed everything?” KVP said.

What KVP Said

PointKVP’s Statement
On YSR’s legacy“YSR was a legend who sacrificed his life for the people”
On Pawan’s comments“Attacking YSR is absurd”
On the timingQuestioned why Pawan would target someone dead for 15+ years
On political ethics“Attacking a dead leader is wrong”

Why This Matters Now

The clash comes at a critical political juncture:

  • Telangana elections approaching — both BRS and Jana Sena are fighting for relevance
  • Pawan Kalyan’s growing influence — Jana Sena is expanding in Telangana after entering the state
  • YSR’s enduring legacy — YSR remains a powerful symbol in Telugu politics, especially among Congress and YSRCP voters
  • Cross-state political dynamics — Andhra leaders commenting on Telangana politics (and vice versa) is becoming more common

The Broader Context

YS Rajasekhara Reddy, popularly known as YSR, served as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister from 2004 until his death in a helicopter crash in 2009. His death triggered massive public mourning and cemented his legacy as a leader who genuinely connected with rural and poor voters.

His son, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, went on to form the YSR Congress Party and won Andhra Pradesh elections in landslide fashion in 2019, continuing the YSR legacy.

Pawan Kalyan’s Position

Pawan Kalyan, the brother of former Andhra CM Pawan Kalyan Naidu (wait — correction: Pawan Kalyan is the brother of Chandrababu Naidu’s political rival and is Jana Sena’s chief), has been increasingly vocal in criticizing Congress and YSRCP leaders as his party expands into Telangana.

Jana Sena’s entry into Telangana politics has created new dynamics, with the party positioning itself as an alternative to both BRS and Congress.

KVP’s Strategic Move

KVP’s sharp criticism serves multiple purposes:

  1. Defends Congress’s legacy — YSR remains Congress’s strongest emotional connect in Telugu states
  2. Challenges Pawan’s credibility — Questions why Pawan would attack a dead leader
  3. Positions BRS as ethical — Draws a line against what KVP calls “unethical politics”
  4. Appeals to YSR voters — Reinforces BRS’s connection to YSR’s legacy in Telangana

What’s Next?

  • Political battle intensifies — Expect more verbal sparring between Jana Sena and BRS/Congress
  • Telangana voters watch closely — How they respond to this clash could shape election narratives
  • Media debate expected — Both sides are likely to use TV debates to amplify their positions
  • Election implications — This could affect vote consolidation in key Telangana constituencies

The Bigger Picture

This isn’t just about one leader’s comments — it’s about political ethics, legacy, and respect in Indian democracy. Attacking a deceased leader who’s widely revered by millions is a line many politicians hesitate to cross.

KVP’s strong stance reflects a broader concern among veteran politicians about the declining standards of political discourse in Telugu states.
