A tragic end has been reported in the case of a Hyderabad student who had been missing in Finland for 65 days. The student, identified as Manideep Reddy Gujja, was earlier the subject of a sustained search effort by his family and authorities, after he went missing in May while studying in Finland.
According to reports, the body recovered from the sea off Helsinki on July 9 was identified as the missing Indian engineering student. Finnish police are still investigating the cause of death, and at this stage they have said there is no suspicion of foul play.
Family’s long wait ends in grief
The case had drawn attention in Telangana after the student’s parents approached the High Court seeking help to trace their son. Court records and reports earlier indicated that the student had last been in touch on May 5, before he disappeared in Finland.
The family had been anxiously waiting for updates as police and other agencies in Finland continued their search. Earlier reports said authorities had been checking transport records, hospitals, roommates’ statements and other leads, but no clear information had emerged until now.
Investigation continues
Finnish authorities have said the investigation is still ongoing, even after the recovery and identification of the body. The National Bureau of Investigation said it would not release further information while the case remains under probe.
The development has brought painful closure to a case that had already caused deep distress to the student’s family in Hyderabad. It also underscores the uncertainty and emotional strain families face when loved ones go missing abroad.
Broader concern
The case has also highlighted the vulnerability of Indian students studying overseas and the challenges families face in getting timely answers during such emergencies. With the cause of death still under investigation, many questions remain unanswered.
For now, the discovery ends weeks of uncertainty, but it opens a new phase of waiting for the final findings from investigators. The focus will now be on what exactly happened in the days after the student was last seen in Helsinki.
