Hyderabad: High‑end cinema experience brand Dolby Cinema is expanding its footprint in Hyderabad, adding two new screens in the city’s key entertainment hubs.
The new Dolby Cinema screens will open at PVR Genesis in Jubilee Hills and at another major multiplex in Hitec City, taking the city’s Dolby count to four screens. This expansion comes amid growing demand for premium formats and immersive audio‑visual experiences among Telangana’s urban audiences.
Dolby Cinema combines advanced laser projection with Dolby Atmos surround sound and specially designed auditoriums to deliver deeper blacks, sharper contrast, and more precise, three‑dimensional audio. The new screens are being promoted as ideal for big‑budget films, especially action, sci‑fi, and high‑end visual‑effects‑driven releases.
“The feedback from moviegoers in Hyderabad has been very positive since we launched. The expansion into two more locations is a clear signal that audiences here value premium formats,” said a regional spokesperson for the multiplex chain, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
Industry analysts say the move reflects a broader trend among theatre chains to upgrade older screens to premium formats such as IMAX, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema. In Hyderabad, these screens are often booked out on opening weekends of major releases, pushing operators to add more capacity.
Cinema‑goers in Hyderabad have welcomed the expansion. “The sound and picture quality in Dolby sets it apart from regular screens. If more locations have them, it’s easier for people across the city to enjoy the experience,” said Arjun Reddy, a software engineer and frequent film‑goer from Uppal.
Authorities at the multiplexes say the new Dolby venues will support all major current‑generation Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and English releases, with ticket prices positioned at a premium over standard 2D and 3D shows. Senior theatre managers expect the new screens to improve overall revenue per screen as well as customer satisfaction.
From a broader perspective, the addition of two Dolby Cinema screens underscores Hyderabad’s growing importance as a premium‑format market in South India. As local audiences become more familiar with advanced audio‑visual quality, exhibitors are betting that experience—or “cinema‑experience value”—will play as big a role as content itself in driving footfalls.
