25-year-old Srinath Reddy from Kamareddy was found dead at a friend’s apartment after a birthday party; cause of death yet to be ascertained

A 25-year-old student from Telangana has died under suspicious circumstances in London, sending shockwaves through his family and village back home, officials and local sources confirmed on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Srinath Reddy, a native of Talamaddla village in Kamareddy district. He was a student at Leicester University, where he had recently enrolled for a master’s degree programme.

According to information received by his family, Srinath had arrived in London barely one month ago — his bags barely unpacked, his academic journey barely begun.

What Happened That Night

Sources close to the family said Srinath had attended a birthday party at a friend’s apartment two days ago and had chosen to stay the night there. When morning came, his friends found him unresponsive.

He was declared dead at the scene.

His friends subsequently informed his parents back in Talamaddla village about his death — a phone call that shattered a family that had pinned their hopes on their son’s future abroad.

The exact cause of death has not yet been officially established. Investigations are currently underway, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, sources said.

Family in Shock, Awaiting Answers

The news has plunged Srinath’s family and his village in Kamareddy into grief. The young man, who had travelled thousands of kilometres to build a future through higher education, had been in the United Kingdom for just about a month before his untimely and unexplained death.

His family is currently awaiting further information from London, including the official cause of death and the timeline for repatriation of his mortal remains to India.

There has been no official statement yet from Leicester University or from the Indian High Commission in London regarding the matter.

Growing Concern Over Indian Students Abroad

Srinath’s death is the latest in a series of tragic incidents involving Indian students dying abroad in circumstances that have raised serious questions about student safety, mental health support, and crisis response systems in foreign universities.

Telangana, in particular, has seen a significant number of its young people travel overseas for higher education in recent years — many from small towns and villages, carrying the weight of their families’ aspirations on their shoulders. Each such death abroad reopens a painful national conversation about the pressures these students face, far from home, often for the first time in their lives.

No Official Response Yet

At the time of filing this report, neither the Telangana government nor the Ministry of External Affairs had issued a formal statement on the incident. It is not yet known whether consular officials have made contact with Srinath’s family or with the authorities in the United Kingdom.
