The Telangana government has cleared the recruitment of 5,000 posts in the state police department. The move aims to strengthen law and order and give a much-needed boost to thousands of unemployed youth preparing for uniformed services.
What posts will be filled?
Officials say the 5,000 posts cover a mix of Sub-Inspector and Constable-level jobs across different wings of the force. These include:
- Civil Sub-Inspectors and Armed Reserve SIs
- Special Police and SAR CPL Sub-Inspectors
- Assistant Sub-Inspectors
- Civil Constables in large numbers
- Armed Reserve Constables
- SAR CPL Constables
- Driver and Mechanic Constables
The Telangana State Police Recruitment Board will issue the notification and conduct written exams, physical tests and final selection.
Files cleared, notification next
The finance department has examined vacancy positions, manpower needs and the financial burden. It has now given its approval to the recruitment proposal. The home department and police top brass are finalising:
- Unit-wise and cadre-wise vacancies
- Reservation rosters and category-wise breakup
- Educational qualifications and age limits
Once they complete this exercise, they will release a detailed notification along with the exam schedule.
Larger shortage in the force
Senior officials admit that the actual shortage in the police force is far higher than 5,000 posts. The vacancy count runs into several thousands more. Because of this, the government has opted for a phased recruitment model instead of a single mega drive.
This 5,000-post batch will act as the first phase. The government may plan more rounds later, depending on finances and training capacity.
CM’s message to unemployed youth
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has repeatedly promised more jobs and faster recruitment. He has urged youth to stay focused on preparation, saying the government will issue notifications regularly across departments.
The clearance of 5,000 police posts gives him a concrete achievement to showcase. For aspirants, it signals that long-pending promises are finally moving forward.
Aspirants welcome move, seek more posts
Thousands of candidates who have trained for police exams for years see this as a major morale boost. Coaching centres have already started fresh batches under “Telangana Police 2026” tags, and many grounds are filling up again with early-morning physical training.
At the same time, youth groups and student unions say 5,000 posts are not enough. They want the government to:
- Increase police vacancies to at least 15,000–20,000 in the next phases
- Release a clear annual job calendar
- Avoid long gaps and repeated delays in recruitment
Impact on law and order
The new recruitment drive will reduce pressure on existing staff in police stations across cities, towns and rural areas. Additional force will help strengthen units that deal with cybercrime, narcotics, traffic management and women’s safety.
With more trained personnel on the ground, officials expect quicker response times and better patrolling, especially in fast-growing urban and semi-urban zones.
What aspirants should do now
Serious candidates can use this period before the notification to sharpen their preparation. They should:
- Revise General Studies, reasoning, arithmetic and Telangana-specific topics
- Follow a daily physical training routine for running and endurance events
- Keep documents like study certificates, caste certificates and sports or NCC credentials ready
For many young people in Telangana, this recruitment round could be the gateway to a stable career in the police force. As they wait for the official notification and exam dates, hope is back on the training grounds—and this time, it comes with a clear number: 5,000 posts up for grabs.
