Rumors about Telugu actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan retiring from acting have surfaced following speculation about his reduced film commitments amid expanded political responsibilities. However, fresh reports indicate the actor has announced a new project that contradicts retirement claims.
The speculation emerged after Pawan Kalyan attended the first press meet for his upcoming film Hari Hara Veera Mallu, where media outlets questioned whether he would continue acting after completing his current slate of projects including Hari Hara Veera Mallu, They Call Him OG, and Ustaad Bhagat Singh. In response, the actor stated cinema will remain part of his life but clarified it does not necessarily mean he will continue acting indefinitely.
Pawan Kalyan’s Previous Statements On Retirement
Pawan Kalyan has expressed his wish to retire from acting multiple times over the years. In March 2025, he told Thanthi TV that his only income source is cinema and said, “As long as I need money, I’ll continue to act in movies, that too without compromising on my administrative and political job.” He made similar remarks in 2016 about Katamarayudu, stating acting is his livelihood and he will not stop.
On January 1, 2026, Pawan Kalyan reversed his previous no-cinema decision by announcing a new film collaboration with director Surender Reddy, scripted by Vakkantham Vamsi. The announcement was made on New Year’s Day and quelled retirement rumors that had circulated between 2020 and 2022 when he approved several films with directors Har Shankar, Surender, and Jeeth.
Current Film Projects And Political Commitments
Pawan Kalyan remains committed to ongoing film projects including Hari Hara Veera Mallu directed by Krish, They Call Him OG directed by Sujeeth, and Ustaad Bhagat Singh helmed by Harish Shankar. All three films are still under production as he balances his full-time administrative duties. The actor was last seen in the 2023 film Bro alongside his nephew Sai Durga Tej.
Pawan Kalyan also mentioned plans to produce films under his own banner PK Creative Works, indicating he may transition from acting to producing while maintaining involvement in cinema. The actor has stressed that public policy making remains his top priority every day while continuing his acting profession without affecting his political career.
Citizens and film industry stakeholders should verify entertainment news through official sources before accepting retirement claims. Pawan Kalyan’s official social media handles and authorized press releases provide confirmed updates on his film projects.
