Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police has introduced an innovative initiative called “A Day with CP,” allowing school and college students to spend a full day shadowing the city’s top police officer to understand modern policing from the inside.

The program offers selected students a rare behind-the-scenes look at police headquarters operations. Participants will visit the Command Control Centre, observe emergency call handling, tour cybercrime units, traffic management rooms, and witness coordination between different police wings during real-time operations.

Police Commissioner C.V. Anand explained the thinking behind the initiative. “Today’s youth often see police only during VIP duties or traffic stops. We want them to understand the 24/7 commitment to public safety, technology use, and community service aspects of policing,” he told reporters.

Students will attend select review meetings (security-cleared), see how CCTV networks track criminals, learn about SHE Teams tackling harassment, and understand cybercrime investigation processes. The day ends with open Q&A where youngsters can ask about careers, women’s safety, drug prevention, or traffic solutions.

Schools must nominate disciplined students showing civic awareness. Selection prioritises curiosity about public service over academic marks. “We want future leaders who understand governance challenges,” a police official added.

Educators praise the move. “Children demonise police in movies but rarely see the human side. This builds trust and responsibility,” said teacher Lakshmi Reddy from Hyderabad Public School.

The timing coincides with heightened security for Hanuman Jayanthi processions today. Students might witness real-time crowd management planning, offering practical insight into maintaining peace during mega events.

Parents see career benefits. “My son dreams of IPS. Seeing actual operations will inspire him,” said IT professional Rajesh Kumar from Gachibowli.

Safety protocols ensure participants see sensitive operations without compromising security. No weapons areas, background checks, and limited photography maintain operational integrity.

The initiative positions students as “police ambassadors,” carrying home messages on road safety, cyber hygiene, and emergency response. Early registrations from top Hyderabad schools show strong interest.

“A Day with CP” transforms passive citizens into informed partners, bridging the trust gap while grooming tomorrow’s responsible Hyderabadis.
