Hyderabad: Crime thriller 7.5 Hours, a reworked version linked to the Dhurandhar universe, is set to release in theatres this week, giving fans a fresh take on the tense, time-bound story.

The film, described as a tighter and more commercial version of the earlier cut, focuses on events that unfold over seven-and-a-half hours in a single day. According to the makers, the new version has crisper editing, added scenes, and reworked background music to enhance the suspense and emotional impact.

Directed by a relatively new filmmaker and backed by the Dhurandhar franchise producers, 7.5 Hours features a mix of familiar and new faces. The story revolves around a high-stakes chase, shifting loyalties, and a race against time, set largely in Hyderabad’s urban landscape.

Speaking about the re-release, the director said in a media interaction that audience feedback from limited screenings pushed them to refine the film. “We realised the core story was strong, but the pacing needed to be sharper. This new version is leaner, more gripping, and designed for the big screen,” he said.

Producers are positioning 7.5 Hours as a companion piece rather than a direct sequel. While it connects loosely to the Dhurandhar world in tone and treatment, it is being marketed as a standalone watch for new audiences. Trade trackers say this strategy could help the film tap into the popularity of the larger franchise without confusing first-time viewers.

Early buzz from fan pages and social media suggests curiosity around the revised cut. “If they’ve tightened the screenplay and boosted the thriller elements, this could surprise at the box office,” said a Hyderabad-based film analyst. Some fans of the Dhurandhar series have already dubbed it a “must-watch spin-off” in comments online.

The makers are also counting on word-of-mouth and strong night show occupancy, given the film’s thriller mood and urban setting. Multiplexes in Hyderabad and other Telangana cities have started advance bookings, with targeted promotions highlighting the “new version” angle.

As 7.5 Hours heads back to cinemas in its updated form, the team hopes the second outing will find a wider audience and strengthen the Dhurandhar brand in Telugu cinema’s growing thriller space.
