Hyderabad: A 26-year-old woman was found dead in a hotel room in the city’s Langer Houz area on Thursday night, prompting police to detain her boyfriend for questioning as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances of her death.
What Happened
According to Langer Houz police, the woman, identified as Renuka, had checked into the V Grand hotel on Thursday evening along with her boyfriend, Farukh. The two had reportedly been in a relationship for around six months, having met at a pub where Renuka worked as a dancer at an establishment called Kings and Queens in Kukatpally.
Police said the couple ordered food after checking in, and Farukh later stepped out to attend a function. Renuka was found dead in the room after he returned. He alerted hotel staff, who in turn informed the police.
Officers said that shortly before her death, around 12:30 am, Renuka had made a video call to a friend, during which she mentioned that her birthday was the following day.
Family Disputes Suicide Claim
While police have so far treated the death as a case of suicide by hanging, Renuka’s family has pushed back strongly against that conclusion, alleging that she was murdered and raising questions about Farukh’s role in the events leading up to her death.
Police said both Renuka and Farukh were married to other people at the time. Renuka, a resident of Bolaram who had previously lived in Mukabowli, had been married eight years ago and has a seven-year-old son, though she was living separately from her husband. Farukh, who is from the Golconda area, is also married and has three children.
Investigation Underway
Farukh has been detained and is currently in custody for questioning as police continue their investigation. Renuka’s body has been shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination, the results of which are expected to play a key role in establishing the exact cause of death.
Authorities have said the probe remains ongoing, and further details are likely to emerge as the post-mortem findings come in and statements from those involved are recorded.
