If you thought Friday’s downpour was the finale, think again — Hyderabad’s skies are gearing up for an encore, and this one’s bringing thunder.

A day after the city witnessed a heavy spell of rains, Saturday is set to deliver round two — and forecasters say it’s heading straight for the western parts of the city. According to the latest thunderstorm alert issued at 2:40 pm on Saturday, Hyderabad and its western outskirts can expect intense downpours within the next one to two hours.

Who’s in the firing line?

If you live, work, or are stuck in traffic anywhere near Moinabad, Shankarpally, Mokila, Kollur, Tellapur, Nagulapally, Nallagandla, Patancheru, BHEL, RC Puram, Ameenpur, Kokapet, Manikonda, or Himayatsagar, you might want to keep an umbrella — and maybe a backup plan — handy. These areas are squarely in the crosshairs for the next couple of hours.

It’s not just Hyderabad’s problem

Telangana, as a whole, isn’t getting off easy either. The same weather system is expected to whip up scattered but intense thunderstorms across several districts over the next two hours — including Sangareddy, Vikarabad, and parts of Rangareddy district such as Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, and Shadnagar. Add to that Nalgonda, Yadadri-Bhongir (Choutuppal and Pochampalle), Jangaon, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, and Khammam — that’s a lot of ground covered by a single system.

Meanwhile, if you’re in Medak, Siddipet, Kamareddy, Adilabad, Nizamabad, or Narayanpet, expect isolated to scattered rain activity — less dramatic, but still worth a second look before you step out.

The bottom line

This is shaping up to be a proper monsoon weekend, and the city’s already-tested drainage systems are about to get another workout. Authorities have advised residents in the affected areas to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy spells, and stay alert for lightning activity and possible waterlogging in low-lying areas.

So whether you’re commuting through Kokapet’s traffic snarls or just watching the clouds roll in from your balcony — round two is on its way, and Hyderabad’s monsoon drama isn’t done yet.

Stay tuned for updates as the system moves through the city.
