Mumbai, April 9: Dhurandhar 2 has grossed ₹1,622 crore worldwide after five weeks, but must earn another ₹1,200 crore to overtake Pushpa 2: The Rule as India’s highest-grossing film, trade analysts report.
Both action blockbusters have dominated 2026 box office charts. Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 currently holds the record at ₹2,824 crore worldwide since its December 2025 release. Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar 2, released March 6, showed explosive opening with ₹180 crore India net in its first weekend.
The Hindi action drama needs to sustain momentum through summer holidays and Eid celebrations. “Dhurandhar averages ₹25 crore weekly now, down from ₹200 crore peaks. Pushpa 2 took eight weeks to cross ₹2,500 crore,” said trade expert Ramesh Bala.
Allu Arjun’s pan-India appeal drove Pushpa 2 to ₹1,647 crore India net, with Telugu states contributing 45%. Dhurandhar 2 earned ₹965 crore from Hindi markets but lags in South India at ₹180 crore.
Overseas performance shows the gap clearly:
| Region | Dhurandhar 2 (₹ Cr) | Pushpa 2 (₹ Cr) | Gap Remaining |
|---|---|---|---|
| India Net | 965 | 1,647 | 682 |
| Overseas Gross | 240 | 450 | 210 |
| Worldwide | 1,622 | 2,824 | 1,202 |
| Daily Average (Week 5) | 25 | 12 (Week 8) | – |
Producer Aditya Dhar remains optimistic. “Audience love keeps theatres packed. Records are made to be broken,” he told reporters after Wednesday’s ₹28 crore single-day haul.
Fan reactions split online. “Dhurandhar mass elevated Indian cinema—Pushpa fans can’t deny this fire,” tweeted Mumbai viewer Rajesh K. South Indian fans countered, “Pushpa 2 owned original markets. Respect the pioneer.”
Sukumar’s Pushpa 2 benefited from Christmas timing and Allu Arjun’s National Award buzz. Dhurandhar 2 countered with Virat Kohli’s viral endorsement and Ranveer’s career-best performance.
Trade sources predict Dhurandhar 2 could close at ₹2,400 crore if Hindi belt holds strong. “Mass films rarely run six weeks profitably, but repeat value remains high,” noted analyst Komal Nahta.
This record chase pits Bollywood muscle against pan-India stamina, testing whether Dhurandhar 2 can sustain fire or if Pushpa 2’s throne remains untouchable in Indian cinema history.
